Museum of Science and Industry

I Want To Go Here I've Been Here

MOSI or the Museum of Science and Industry is based on the site of the world's oldest passenger railway station. This engaging museum truly is an experience to be shared by all. Children, big and small will spend hours engrossed in the hands-on exhibitions, while the enormous collection of classic and historical vehicles and vintage working machinery is fascinating. Viewing the halls full of huge, steam-powered machines in action is an experience that will be remembered for a lifetime.

The many permanent exhibitions allow you to explore how the Industrial Revolution began in Manchester and changed Britain's cities as well as the lives of its people. The Museum of Science and Industry also hosts special exhibitions and is often a stopping point for world-class touring attractions. The current special exhibitions are “Everyday Relics” and “Ice Lab: New Architecture and Science in Antarctica”, the former is a collection of objects used in everyday life during the industrial revolution brought to life with photography and animation to illustrate their uses and how they have evolved into the objects frequently found in modern day homes. The latter brings together original drawings, models, photographs, films, ephemera and sources of inspiration for highly specialized, sci-fi looking polar research stations.

There are so many things for families to enjoy at the Museum of Science and Industry, with meetings with historical characters, demonstrations of original machinery, a train ride behind a replica steam locomotive, hands-on workshops and much more, this is a fun day out that will be enjoyed by all from tiny tots to sulky teen to jaded adults. Family facilities include wheelchair and pushchair access, baby changing, café, picnic / packed lunch area, friendly staff, lift access, parking, shop and lockers are also available.
