Bethesda is a thriving and extremely affluent city, located conveniently to the northwest of US Capital, Washington DC and easily accessible on the Metro Red Line. In 2012, the city was listed as the top-earning American town by CNN Money. It’s no surprise then that Bethesda is full of fine restaurants, art galleries and an excellent shopping scene – much of which can be found in Bethesda’s desirable downtown development.
The city gets its name from one of its longest standing landmarks, the Bethesda Presbyterian Church. Other famous landmarks in the area include the Walter Reed National Military Medical Centre and the National Institute of Health’s main campus. With its proximity to the capital and its affluent status, numerous corporate and government headquarters are also based in Bethesda. Home to two highly regarded theatres, Bethesda has plenty to keep visitors and cultural connoisseurs entertained. Imagination Stage is a family arts centre, focusing on youth participation, where the Round House Theatre plays host to numerous acclaimed performances. Bethesda is also popular for its many festivals that take place throughout the year which include the Bethesda Fine Arts Festival, Literary Festival, children’s street festivals, Summer concerts, food and drink festival and enchanting Winter Wonderland. There are a number of examples of beautiful architecture around the city, most notably the Art Deco buildings of the Walter Reed Medical Centre and the Bethesda Theatre. For enjoying the open air there are number of pretty parks and outdoor areas for relaxing and playing sports. A key attraction in the city is the Capital Crescent Trail, which runs from Georgetown through to Silver Spring, intersecting Bethesda City. Enjoy a stroll, job or cycle along the trail for a pot of fresh air and exercise.
