Things to do in Edinburgh

Edinburgh is never short of something to see and do. Home to Deep Sea World with its walk through shark tank, Edinburgh Zoo which is the setting for a vast array of residents, and Our Dynamic Earth which takes you through earth’s geology and the Big Bang, Edinburgh is perfect to keep the children busy. For the bigger children, a trip to Mary King’s Close is on the cards with hidden streets from the 1600s that run below the Royal Mile, tours available from period costumed guides.

Of course, no Scottish trip would be complete without the Scotch Whisky Experience, telling the stories behind Scotland’s national drink, take a trip on their very own barrel ride, and stare in wonder at the 4,000 bottles of whisky on public display.

Best time of the year to visit Edinburgh

Although the English summertime runs from June-August, we think the best time to visit Edinburgh is during the winter months between December – March. This is the time Edinburgh becomes even more magnificent, with its snow-capped mountains, Christmas markets, and the extravagant festivities of Burns night (25th January). Wrap up warm and stay cosy with a nice hot chocolate in front of open fires at the traditional pubs, or take to the ice rinks to skate the night away.

Places to eat in Edinburgh

From all you can eat Chinese buffets to French cuisine Edinburgh offers a great range of international foods. However, if you are visiting Scotland there is one dish that cannot be missed and is worth giving it a try, Haggis. Most local restaurants and pubs will serve this national dish, and a trip to Edinburgh is not complete without giving it a taste.
