Mayfair got its name from the annual May Fair that took place here, right in the heart of London. Though the fair was banned in 1764, the area retained its name. It gives visitors a fabulous base from which to explore and enjoy some of the most exclusive shopping and some of the best restaurants in London! The area is surrounded by some of London’s most elite neighbourhoods: to the west you will find Hyde Park, with Bond Street and Pall Mall to the south.
Its location makes it perfect for some of the main tourist attractions such as Buckingham Palace. For anyone wanting to have a shopping spree you have Oxford Street within easy reach where you will find a variety of shops and boutiques for everyone's taste. The area is home to a host of impressive and famous buildings including the US embassy in Grosvenor Square and the Royal Academy of Art.
Mayfair really is an area that has something on offer for everyone whatever the nature of your visit. For something a little different visit the world famous Claridges or The Dorchester hotels for afternoon tea. For any film buffs you will enjoy spotting locations taken from Woody Allen's 'Match Point' and the Beatles' 'A Hard Day’s Night. For visitors looking for some tranquillity amongst the hustle and bustle you have Green Park and Buckingham Palace Gardens on your doorstep.
