With striking scenery complemented by exciting outdoor activities, this country offers every visitor the perfect mix of choice to sit back and relax or enjoy thrilling adventures.

The climate in Iceland is milder than most expect considering its northern location, as the coastal areas benefit from the warm waters of the Atlantic Gulf Stream. July and August tend to be the warmest months with the summer nights being bright and in June, the sun never fully goes down. The winter darkness includes only three or four hours a daylight a day and tends to last from mid-November to the end of January.

Iceland acknowledges a number of public holidays including:

New Year's Day, Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Day and Easter Monday, First Day of Summer, May Day (1st May), Ascension, Whit Sunday and Whit Monday, The Seaman's Day (first Sunday of June), Icelandic National Day, Commerce Day (first Monday of August), Christmas.

By Air:

The main airport in Iceland is Keflavik International Airport which is 50km south-west of Reykjavik.

By Road:

Once in Iceland, you can hire a vehicle to drive around the island, however during Winter, many roads are closed due to poor weather conditions and the road surface being covered in snow. It is always a good idea to check with local sources regarding the road conditions before travelling, but don't let this put you off, as the road network is very easy to navigate and will lead you to many popular tourist attractions. Most of the roads are paved but some are gravel, especially in the highlands.

Icelandic is the official language and English is spoken very well as a second language.
