A Luxury Christmas in London

If all you want for Christmas is a bit of luxury, look no further than London. Our capital at Christmastime is hard to beat and this festive season you will find a host of things to do, places to shop and eat for the traveller who enjoys the finer things in life. Here at Citybase Apartments, we love celebrating all that is great about luxury London, so here are a few of our favourite ways to splash some cash this December on the best of British food, drink and retail therapy. And of course some incredible apartments to stay in while you're in town.

Harrods, Knightsbridge

This place needs no introduction and what trip to London at Christmas would be complete without paying a visit to the world’s most famous luxury department store? The Christmas display at Harrods is an attraction in itself. Each year the transformation of the windows is more sumptuous and magical, and this year promises to be no different.

If all those shopping bags are weighing you down, why not stay the night at Chesham Court, which is less than a 10 minute walk away from harrods.

Winter Wonderland

In the centre of Hyde Park sits the city’s most magical Christmas Winter Wonderlands. With over 200 wooden cabins, all with unique and special Christmas gifts and decorations, you can purchase some fantastic ornaments for the tree. There is even a well-stocked festive bar accompanying sizzling fire pits! With live music and a steaming cup of mulled wine in hand, you can relax by the fire with loved ones and truly feel the Christmas spirit.

What sounds more Christmassy then ice skating to Christmas music with Christmas lights and people in winter coats and scarves? That’s right, absolutely nothing! Which is exactly why the ice rink at the Winter Wonderlands is ideal for a festive adventure.

For a short walk there and back why not stay in our Curzon Street Apartment which is just 7 minutes’ walk away from the very centre of the park.

Southbank Centre Winter Market

For all the food lovers and Christmas lovers, there is no better place than the Southbank Centre Winter Market. With global cuisines all gathering for this one event, it’s best to be not to eat beforehand as you won’t be able to resist the exquisite culinary creations awaiting you! From Cheese trucks to cocktails, there is certainly something for everyone, not to mention some Christmassy entertainment along with it.

Skate your way to Fortnum and Mason at Somerset House

For a double helping of luxurious London indulgence, get your skates on at Somerset House and enjoy the most sophisticated rinkside experience the capital has to offer in the shadow of one of our most breathtaking buildings. A few bunny hops and camel spins later, sate your appetite in the Fortnum's Lodge and choose from a festive menu of winter warmers such as fondue and mince pie washed down with mulled wine and champagne. Nothing sums up a British Christmas like the iconic F&M Hamper. So make yours a #FortnumsChristmas by heading over to the Fortnum’s Arcade pop-up where you can pick up all the gastronomic luxuries you need to enjoy a taste of London this Christmas - wherever you happen to be on December 25th. Christmas shopping in London

With so many fabulous places to get some last minute Christmas shopping in, the question is, where do you start? No matter what you want, from indulgent browsing on Bond Street to scenic shopping in Covent Garden, London has it all!

Bond Street

Iconic designers such as Burberry, Tods and Mulberry fly the flag for British fashion in the high-end shopping heaven that is Bond Street. For the lover of luxury in your life, why not slip a piece from Mulberry’s latest collection into their stocking? And what better choice than the iconic Bayswater. If a spending spree has left you feeling somewhat light-headed, head over to The Royal Arcade where you will find the ultimate sugar fix courtesy of one of Britain’s first and finest chocolatiers  Charbonnel et Walker. These master craftsmen produce irresistible, gorgeously presented chocolates and truffles which make perfect Christmas gifts. Our personal favourite - the Billionaire's Truffle - naturally! And if all that festive frosting is weighing heavy, why not stay at the Metropolitan Apartments, Old Park Lane?

Eat at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, Chelsea

After a full day enjoying the best that luxury London has to offer, what better way to round off your visit than a slap-up meal at one of our finest restaurants? Still the touchstone of culinary quality and the one they all want to win, London has 58 restaurants with one Michelin star, nine with two and just three boasting the coveted three stars. Restaurant Gordon Ramsay is one of these, and our personal favourite, serving up modern and elegant French cuisine. For a truly unforgettable experience, the Inspiration Table offers a unique culinary spectacle as the menu is created and prepared before your eyes and the chefs provide a once-in-a-lifetime insight into the creative process that goes into each dish. The ultimate Christmas gift for any discerning foodie! Once you've finished your meal, a short walk from north through the stucco-fronted terraces and garden squares of Kensington and Chelsea will take you to the West House, Rosemoor Street, Chelsea.
