Reading Abbey are ruins located in the centre of the city. With a whole quarter to explore, you can discover 900 years of history all in one go. Not only can you take tours of the ruins, but there are also many live events on at the Abbey. With exhibitions such as Arts Asia and Down at the Abbey, there is always something new to discover.  

Make sure you head over to Reading Museum to discover the history this impressive building has shared since 1883. With free admissions, it’s a fun and financially friendly trip for the whole family. Reading Museum is situated in the same building as Reading Town Hall, which has some great eateries and bars nearby. 

Places to visit 

Reading is full of delightful parks and green areas, one of which is Prospects Park. Known as the biggest and most popular park in Reading, the park is a great place to take the little ones for some fresh air and lovely park scenery.

Nightlife 

If you’re seeking some great places to experience Reading’s nightlife, then have no fear, as Reading is in no short supply of entertainment. With well-known places like Be at one and Walkabout, you can be sure to have a great time out.

Food and Drink

Travel Information 

Travelling to Reading can be quite painless, especially by train.  With Reading Southern Railway Station being in the centre of the city, no matter the place you’re coming from you’ll be able to arrive into the centre. Additionally, due to the fact the station is in the centre, it’s more than likely you will be able to walk to where you need to go. With Reading Museum and Reading Central Library all with in a 15 minute walk from the station, walking might be your best option.           

The best bus to get travelling straight from one end of the city to the other is Route 17. This is the most frequent bus in Reading with a couple of buses each hour. If you’re taking all the family, we would suggest buying a group ticket (2-4 people) which costs £9 or £6 during school holidays.
