The land of myths and legends, Greece is one of the most famous holiday destinations in the world.

Home to 18 UNESCO World Heritage Sites and many ancient ruins, this country is full of history and widely considered to be the cradle of western civilization, as well as the birth place of democracy, The Olympic Games, philosophy, politics and mathematics. The perfect destination for culture and history lovers.

Beach, sea and sand seekers also have a place in the land of the gods. Boasting one of the longest coastline in the world, the longest in the Mediterranean Basin, Greece is not only steeped in history, but also in natural beauty. The sea here is turquoise; the sand is white; and the sunsets a golden spectacle.

Whether you want to relax by the sea or learn about ancient mythology, Greece offers the best of both worlds. And why choose when you can have it all?

When is the best time of the year to visit Greece?

If you like scorching heat and busy crowds, the best time to visit Greece is the summer, between June and August, when coastal cities receive thousands of visitors as well as locals and the weather is dry and hot, especially in the last 10 days of July and early 10 days of August.

The best time to visit Greece if you want to miss the busy season is autumn, in between September and mid-December for the southern islands. Widely considered the most beautiful season, autumn sees cooler, but still warm weather, and warm seas with occasional rain. In October, it also experiences the summer of St Demetrius, an extended period of good, warm and dry days.

Spring, March to May, is the second best time of year to visit if you want to miss the summer madness and when you might find some really good deals. While the blooms make the scenery stunning, both the weather and the sea can still be a little on the cold side, especially in early spring and Northern Greece.

Winter is a different, but equally stunning season in Greece, which goes from scorching heat in the summer, to snow fall in certain areas in the winter. A great time of the year for good deals, but beware, a lot of summer resorts close in between October and May.

Unless you want to completely take it easy and relax, avoid the Easter period as it’s one of Greece’s most important holidays and a lot of the shops and attractions close during the Easter weekend.
