Once a run-down industrial area, The Quayside has undergone major redevelopment and is now home to some of the city's most popular restaurants, bars and night clubs. Enjoy leisurely walks along the banks of the River Tyne with spectacular views of the Gateshead Millennium Bridge and the Tyne Bridge. Lined with great eateries, you will be spoiled for choice. Many of the restaurants are Italian, including Pizza Express, Uno's and Prima Pasta, but if you fancy some seafood instead, visit Big Mussel. It not only has an extensive seafood menu but plenty of other dishes to satisfy every appetite. La Tasca and Gusto are situated behind Pitcher and Piano, a fabulous bar with river views beside the bridge. Frequented by friends and co-workers for a relaxed drink, the Pitcher and Piano has a friendly atmosphere accompanied with mainstream music. Typically attracting a crowd of mid-twenties to late-thirties, after work dos and tourists, the food may be regarded as simple 'home from home' dishes done to perfection. Serving everything from the Full English Fry-up to Sunday Roast Dinner, the Pitcher and Piano is a great choice at any time. During the summer, customers can enjoy the beautiful scenery from the outdoor dining area. Later in the evening this bar does come to life but it is not a nightclub and closes at midnight during the week and 1am at weekends. Just a short walk along the Quayside, you will find Riverside, a nightclub that is open until 3am at the weekends, offering chart, R&B and dance DJs.
