51 Gower Street Apartments by Acorn

Large, airy flat on the first floor of a secure, well-located residential building. Close to tube station and avant-garde shopping and eateries across nearby Tottenham Court Road.

Key had to be picked up from a location a long walk from the property. Although this provided an unfortunate element of uncertainty when arriving, in practice it did not prove a major inconvenience.

The accommodation was clean and comfortable - nothing flash, but we would be happy to return.

Main problem we have is that the wifi doesn't work. Having access to the Internet is critical for me to be able to do business whilst I am away. Very disappointing. It may be fixed in 24 to 48 hours, but this is unacceptable for me.

Also, heating doesn't work at all, front door is terribly difficult to open, there are no basic condiments ( even salt and pepper would have been nice), no instructions for the tv operation ( got this to work eventually), windows don't shut, carpets weren't vacuumed.

I wouldn't recommend this as a place to stay

I would highly recommend this apartment for large groups (5-8 people) as it is spacious and great value for money. The location of the apartment is ideal - just a 3 minute walk to the underground as well as plenty of cafes and mini supermarkets. All of the bedrooms in the apartment were huge - unusual for central London! The kitchen/dining/lounge area was a great place for everyone to relax together instead of being in separate rooms like in a hotel. The only thing that bothered us was that the upstairs toilet lid was broken (one of the hinges was broken).

The flat was well located and was fine for our purposes but it was in need of some general maintenance. Previous repairs to the fabric of the flat were generally of a poor standard, the furnishings generally average and the windows were in bad need of being cleaned.

It lacked some essentials such as basic washing up equipment (brush, scourers etc) smaller wine/drinking glasses and oven trays in the kitchen and the lighting in the lounge was poor. The standard lamp did not work (it had no bulb) trying a bulb from a bedside lamp did not work either.

A hair dryer in more of a necessity than a luxury these days and the flat should have at least one provided.

There was a very loose toilet roll holder in the top shower room and we required to buy an air freshener to mask the smell in there.

There had to be a compromise between lack of air and road noise and consideration should be given to air conditioning.

A dishwasher would be nice. There were no wine glasses, so we had to go out and buy some - we left them behind for future guests. Overall, we were very pleased with our choice and enjoyed our stay.

The apartment was great, fantastic location, very clean and tidy. The office staff we dealt with were great. The only issue we did have was that the toaster didn't work and we couldn't figure out how to use the grill in the oven. It may have been as simple as using certain settings but there was no manual on it (which I'd recommend or at least include how to use things in the apartment book) and we didn't spend too long trying to figure it out. We forgot to mention it on the day we were leaving.

But it was still an excellent apartment, ideal for a large group visiting London for a few days.
