Hidden Bars in Edinburgh: Us Vs. The Internet Part 2

Last week we gave you hidden bars part 1 which summed up what the internet thought the best hidden bars were in Edinburgh. Well, this week we bring you the much awaited follow up to this. Last weekend Citybase Apartments went on the road to Edinburgh to find out whether these bars were worth the hype they had received. We chose five of the best and went on an exploration of our own to review the atmosphere, the drinks, and how hidden they actually were. So without further ado, here is our list:

The Bon Vivant

The Bon VivantOur first stop on this journey was The Bon Vivant where we treated ourselves to food and a cocktail. This hidden bar is situated on Thistle Street, a street that you probably wouldn't venture down unless you were told to. If you did you would discover the absolutely incredible food served here. This gourmet food is one not to be missed, especially accompanied by their wide drink selection. We tucked into two steaks, perfectly cooked with boulanger potato, perfect to start our evening off. We have little to criticize about this genuinely great place. Despite a small draft from the open door, we would go back in an instant.

Bryant and Mack

bryant and mack hidden bar

Located on Rose Street, down a small lane was Bryant and Mack. From the outside the interior was designed to look like a private detectives and was definitely hidden away. Inside, the bar is small but offers a great atmosphere and is decorate with an old american private eyes type decor. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff of this bar and the service is fantastic as well as their knowledge on cocktails. This is definitely a great find, if you can find it.

Panda and Sons

Panda and Sons has to be one of our absolute favourites. After heading down toward Queen Street Gardens we came across a barber shop. An open barber shop at 21.00 we thought? Surely not? The man on the door was very accommodating and we were directed down the staircase and through a hidden door disguised as a book case (a great idea to add to atmosphere). We were seated at a table close to the bar and given some popcorn topped with Tabasco which was delicious and quickly devoured. The drinks were amazing and the presentation just topped the experience off, coming in Chinese takeaway boxes and a jar that smoked when opened.

Lucky Liquor

lucky liquor hidden bar

Although Lucky Liquor is small this bar oozes a vibrant atmosphere and a quirky charm. Located on Queen Street opposite the gardens and a short walk from Panda and Sons, this was a great find. Situated a walk away from the main streets of Edinburgh this bar is not exactly hidden, but not easily found unless you know about it already. Their staff were great, friendly, and although busy were happy to give a smile and their time to tell us about the drinks. With tables outside to enjoy the fresh air and a good selection of drinks at the bar.

Bramble Bar

Brambles

Bramble was without a doubt, the hardest bar to find. We must have passed the entrance three or four times before we realised where it was. With only a small gold plaque to tell you you're in the right place it is easy to miss. Once in side you are greeted by a warm and friendly atmosphere, along with great service and nice cocktails. Big and comfortable seats surround you and offers the perfect place to relax. Grab a drink at the candle lit table and take some time out to treat yourself in this bar.
