Did You Know?
The Mensa constellation was named after the Table Mountain. In the 18th century Nicolas Louis de Lacaille was working in Cape Town when he discovered the constellation and after being so in awe of Table Mountain he named the constellation Mons Mensae after the iconic landmark.
Climate/Weather
The summer months (December-February) have long hot days and balmy evenings. Winter (June-August) can get quite cold and tend to be rather wet, although it doesn’t rain every day. Night time temperatures are usually between 10-12 °c but can get as low as 6-7 °c. Daytime temperatures tend to be between 14-20°c. Spring and autumn are usually warm and sunny.

Getting Around
There are a few options for getting around Cape Town.
• Train – a suburban network of trains operate over four areas of the city: Area Ikapa – Cape Town and city destinations, Area North – Bellville, Wellington, Stellenbosch and Strand, Area Central – Langa and Khayelistsha and Area South – Cape Flats and Simon’s Town. The Cape Town to Simon’s Town route, cruising the coastline just metres from the sea, is particularly spectacular.

Eat/Drink
Cape Town offers some of the finest cuisine in South Africa. There is a whole host of restaurants serving cuisine from all over the world but there are a number of local specialities that are a must:

• Seafood – locally caught seafood is exceptionally good and especially so in the winter months.
• Oysters – are famous.
