Warsaw Apartment Types

Warsaw – the capital of Poland and one of the most attractive cities in Europe, rich in history, brimming with culture and awash with beautiful scenery,  is a popular destination with all kinds of travellers from all corners of the globe.

History

The first evidence of a town appeared at the beginning of the 14th century when the Dukes of Masovia established a settlement in the area that is now the site of the Royal Castle. In 1413 the Dukes chose the city as their capital and it remained so for at least the next 100 years. When the King of Masovia died without an heir, Warsaw and the rest of Masovia came under direct rule of the Polish Crown. In 1569 the Sejm (the lower house of the Polish parliament) voted to make Warsaw its permanent seat due to its prime central location then in 1596 the King chose to move his capital from Krakow to Warsaw. The 18th century, despite being a period of decline for Poland in general, was one of great prosperity for Warsaw with the emergence of palaces, churches and a flourishing artistic life. The early 20th century saw a continued period of industrialisation and urban development and in 1980 the historic old town was enlisted by UNESCO on the World Heritage list.
