Nottingham Apartment Types

Nottingham, famously connected to the legends of Robin Hood, is a fascinating historic yet modern city, with plenty to see and do.

History

In Anglo-Saxon times, the site of modern Nottingham was part of the kingdom of Mercia, and was known as Tigguo Cobauc, meaning Place of Caves. The name Nottingham is thought to derive from a Saxon chieftain named Snot - Snotingaham meaning the homestead of Snot's people. In medieval times, Nottingham is supposed to have been home to Robin Hood- although other legends place him further north in Yorkshire. During the Industrial Revolution, Nottingham became an important centre of lace manufacture and grew rapidly. It was granted city status as part of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee celebrations in 1897.
