Bangalore Apartment Types

A vibrant city, known for its software and electronics industries, impressive architecture and wealth of restaurants, bars and shops, Bangalore is a popular destination with both business travellers and tourists alike.

History

Bangalore started life as a mud fort in 1537 which was built by the feudal lord Kempegowda and remained a small city until 1759 when it was given as a gift to the de facto ruler of Mysore, Hyder Ali, by the Mysore Maharaja. The city was incorporated into the British Indian Empire after the Fourth Anglo-Mysore War in 1799 then some ten years later the British Cantonment was established here. In 1831 the British moved their regional administrative base here from Sirangapatnam, changing the city’s name from Bengaluru to Bangalore in the process. Bangalore’s standing as a hub for science and technology emerged in the early 20th century when the city became the first in India to have electricity. By 1961 Bangalore had become the sixth largest city in India and grew as a manufacturing base with the establishment of a number of private companies. Today Bangalore, dubbed the Silicon Valley of India, is a world hub for computer software and electronics, the third most populous city in India and the capital of the Indian state of Karnataka.
